Hi! My name is Kelly Brandenburg. I am very excited to be one of Parent to Parent’s South Central Regional Coordinators. My journey began as a special education teacher for many years. During this time, I had many opportunities to meet amazing parents who were on this journey. Little did I know that I would be joining them years later. I have 3 beautiful children. My daughter was born in 1998. She is a very determined young lady who happens to have Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, Mitochondrial Disorder and Factor V Leiden. My son was born in 2002. He is a wonderful role model to his littlest brother. He is a very kind young man who loves to play basketball. My youngest son, who was born in 2012, is an energetic little guy who is always on the go. He happens to have Periventricular Leukomalacia and Apraxia of Speech. And this is where my journey begins. My littlest spent time in the NICU after he was born. I remember those days very clearly. We were told all the challenges he may face as he grew. Thankfully, with the help of many wonderful therapist and doctors, he is doing great. He has surpassed all their expectations! However, the journey continues as he enters school and are now navigating our way through the school system and the IEP process. Throughout this journey, I have learned, first hand, how beneficial it is to have support from other parents who know what you are experiencing. This is why I am thrilled to be working for Parent to Parent. I feel so blessed to be able to help connect parents to other parents who understand the journey they are on and who are willing to provide support along the way. As our children grow, the challenges they face will change. It is comforting to know that Parent to Parent is here to provide support from birth through adulthood.
