Michelle Smithman

SE Regional Coordinator

My name is Michelle Smithman and I am very excited to be working as a Southeastern Regional Coordinator for Parent to Parent of PA. I have been a Peer Supporter with Parent to Parent since 1996, when my son Brian was three years old. Brian was diagnosed at six months of age as a stroke victim. He suffered a massive stroke in-utero and has an overall diagnoses of Cerebral Palsy, with a right hemiparesis, seizure disorder and intellectual delays. With the help of his many teachers and therapists, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and his older sister, Emily, he has surpassed many expectations. But no parent travels these journeys alone, and that’s where Parent to Parent comes in. The amount of information and support that a parent needs is enormous and doesn’t end at any particular age. As Brian is now 21 and finished school and starting an adult day program, we are navigating through a whole new world. Having support from parents through the years has been an enormous help and I am very glad to now have the opportunity to help make those connections for other parents.
