Nicole Zilli

SW Regional Coordinator

Parent to Parent of PA 102 Equity Drive Greensburg, PA 15601

When my daughter Bailie suffered an anoxic brain injury from a near drowning accident at her babysitters as a toddler, I was understandably overwhelmed. I was blessed to have had professional experience working in human services, so I knew many parents of children with special needs and was aware of the supports and services available for my daughter. However, I didn't know anyone who had been through a similar experience with their child or whose child was similar in terms of needs and abilities...until I discovered Parent to Parent. It took me a while to contact Parent to Parent, but once I did, I felt like a weight had been lifted. It was so nice to talk with someone in a similar circumstance. My Peer Supporter was the first person who really understood. A short time after I was matched I was asked to offer support to another parent, I was happy to help and became a volunteer Peer Supporter. Once my daughter was in school full time, I decided to go back to work, and as luck would have it, Parent to Parent was hiring a part time Regional Coordinator for my region. It was another great match. I enjoyed connecting parents. I remained in that role for almost 7 years. In 2015 I resigned that position to pursue my passion for inclusion, but I remained a volunteer Peer Supporter. Shortly after my departure I was asked to work a limited number of hours as the Quality Control Coordinator. In this role, I made calls to follow up on the matches made by the regional coordinators. In spring 2017, I returned to my original position as Southwest Regional Coordinator. I am happy to be able to be part of a great team of parents, working to help other parents.
